Ethics is the study of what is right and wrong in human conduct. Environmental ethics studies the effects of human’s moral relationships on the environment and everything within it (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2008). The ethical principles that govern those relations determine human duties, obligations, and responsibilities with regard to the Earth’s natural environment and all of the animals and plants that inhabit it (Taylor, 1989). The purpose of this paper is to reveal environmental issues that are threatening the existence of life on Earth, and discus our social obligations to refrain from further damaging our environment, health and life for future generations. I will discus the need for appropriate actions and the ethical application in the decision making process on solving environmental concerns. Environmental Concerns The environment has been under attack since the dawn of man. Without the environment, man could not exist. Herein lies the dilemma, man takes from the earth what he needs to survive, food, water, shelter, and the very air he breathes. However, the ever-rising population of man demands more of these essentials at a rapid rate, therefore, more is being taken than the earth can replenish. The human populous and concentrations of pesticides in food crops, started to be seen as an environmental crisis in the 1960’s, which acted as the stepping-stone for environmental awareness. In 1967, historian Lynn White published an essay on the historical roots of the environmental crisis. Whites essay created many academic debates over the Judeo-Christian mode of thinking, which encouraged the exploitation of nature for human consumption. The ethical dilemma arises from the concern of whether or not it was mor... ...man sources of greenhouse gas emissions are expected to rise due to the growing populous, this growth may be reduced by Bush’s plans to increase efforts to use newer, cleaner technologies and measures. These plans will only be effective if everyone, not just in the United States, but the entire world, participates and becomes aware of the ethical dilemmas challenging our very existence. The environment is a part of us and we of it. We cannot survive without each other. Since the dawn of time, it has nurtured and provided for us. Now it is our turn to nurture and preserve the environment. The future in uncertain, but if the entire human species can adapt a more reasonable lifestyle, there is hope for the environment and every living thing in it. Time is of the essence, therefore, immediate actions and ethical decisions are necessary for survival of the planet.

This money should be used in new housing and road development. To what extent do you agree or disagree?There currently exists a hot debate over whether a large proportion of government expenses should be allocated to restore historical architecture or be invested in constructing new houses and roads. From my personal point of view, spending on new housing and road improvement has a far greater value between the two and its budget allocation is necessary. A primary reason that sufficient funding should be provided towards building houses and roads is that the employment provided by such public works may relieve the financial burden of working families.For one thing, new housing and road projects may initially require tremendous amounts of labor and materials, thus creating various Job opportunities for engineers, truck drivers and electricians, among others. Once the projects are completed, ongoing maintenance work would need to be overfed in the new areas. Filling these vacancies would generate income for workers and thus ease the burden of living for many households. Moreover, reallocating the budget to make progress on new homes and better roads may enhance productivity in the economy.Advanced basic infrastructure, road systems in particular, would establish an effective transport network. If the government were to withdraw funds from restorations and designate a higher percentage of expenditure to achieve well-maintained roads, traffic Jams could be reduced or even been eliminated to some extent. As a result, residents, consciousness and officials may waste less time on the road, which allows extra hours for other economic activities.There is no doubt that restoring traditional buildings to their original form can stimulate the economy through the tourist industry. Examples of cultural heritage that are well preserved may attract visitors from other parts of the world and lead to profits in travel agencies, souvenir stores and hospitality companies. However, the have greater market efficiency and wider economic benefits, particularly for workers and their families. Therefore, I am in favor of funding new housing and road development.

In the mermaid’s quest, one could see Adrian’s own desire to wed aesthetics to ethics so that his art would serve humanity; according to the Devil, Adrian’s art would assure that â€Å"[mankind] will no longer need to be mad† (Mann 1). So too, in the mermaid’s reception of the hostile human world, the artist could also find his basic dilemma. Her yearning symbolizes his own, but her end underlines the dangers of defining art’s function in terms of a society that ultimately rejects it. For Mann, Andersen’s mermaid represented the deadliest temptation his Faust could face, the artists temptation to save his soul at the†¦show more content†¦Thus far, the mermaid has been referenced as both a seductress, as per the devil and as a sister by Adrian. The nature of their connection is inherent in both suggestions, but chiefly this verbal fluctuation perhaps could symbolize Adrian’s own inner temptations between lusty artistic ambition and the quest for soul salvation. Mann’s Devil provides the initiatory connection between Adrian and The Little Mermaid. It is poignant that it is the Devil himself who makes the parallel seeing as it addresses a type of double connection; that which is between the little mermaid and Adrian and that which is between Adrian and the Devil himself. Earlier in the novel, it is noted that â€Å"A teacher is the personification of the apprentice’s own conscience† (Mann, 191). By considering the Devil as a type of instructor then perhaps the devil is the expression of Adrian’s own conscious. This points to a sort of pseudo-love triangle or â€Å"lack-of-love triangle† for our case between the Devil, Adrian and the Little Mermaid whereby the devil and the mermaid are inherently part of, in the devil’s case, and connected with Adrian; Each one providing opposing guidance for Adrian. *Aside – This is an idea we have looked at on numerous occasions.
